List of Liturgical Congregations

I don't know if it's the time of year, or what, but there have been lots of questions recently about the temporary unavailability of the listing of liturgical Lutheran congregations.

It will be back. The webmaster has been short of time recently. He spent months working a full-time job (with a 2.5-hour daily commute) alongside being a pastor. Then there was a move, and major re-adjustments for his family. Following that, he has been spending a huge number of hours moving dirt with a hand-shovel, sanding boards, staining deck, and other tasks necessary to making our backyard usable into something that's not a dump. Furthermore, he spends 9 hours a day staring at a computer screen at work; it's not easy to come home and sit down to more screen-time.

Unfortunately, keeping up with changes to the list can be difficult, especially when pastors do not report changes, or report lots of minor changes. The plan is for the list to be back. But the poor fellow needs to finish dealing with his messy backyard before he can get to the intense computer tasks. Please have patience, and we'll try to remember to announce when the list is up and running again.

  1. Susan,

He sounds like a busy guy! Is the difficulty in how the site is designed, or just maintaining all of the information? Perhaps the site could move to a Wiki or something that a group of people maintain?

  2. The site design isn't a problem. It's just changing the hours for services (like between winter/summer schedules), or changing frequency of communion, or more importantly, changing when pastors move to a new place, or adding a congregation to the list. Right now we're having dry weather, so Gary can be making headway on the deck repairs and the adjustments to the landscaping in the yard (iow, dealing with the huge hole left by the removal of the swimming pool that the previous owners had). Weather allows the outdoor work, and it has to be done. This is a prime example of the cliche "making hay while the sun shines." When the weather turns, he'll have some time to dig in to those long-neglected indoor projects.

  3. I don't know the ins and outs of maintaining a website like that one, but would there be others willing to give him a hand?

It's a wonderful resource to have!

  4. We've been attending a nearby WELS church where they sing the Psalms and use the liturgy I grew up with....it's wonderful :)

We did check your dh's site but the nearest LCMS church was in Two Rivers, a solid hour south of us. Just too far.....

  5. I wish it were easier to get WELS and ELS congregations to submit their congregations ... assuming they use the liturgy and practice closed communion.
