Pool Decision

It's going to have to go. The costs is just too high for us to get it up and running after the harsh winter. There is a lot of work ahead of us, removing and moving fencing, dismantling and disposing of the pool, doing something with the landscaping to fill in the hole, and changing the deck. Sorry to those of you who were looking forward to bringing the kids to play in the water!

  1. I, for one, would much rather have a larger yard than a pool. Meh, pools. Don't care for 'em. I don't think I could ever feel 100% comfortable letting my kid (when, you know, I have a kid) play outside by himself with a pool there, too. I know plenty of kids are fine - but there would always be that fear... what if he slips and hits his head and falls in? I fell out of trees... but at least there was something solid under my back when I landed.

Water... ick. Anything that doesn't let you breathe when you're in it is just plain unnatural!

I say this (sort of) in jest, of course. :-) I won't lament seeing your pool go, though. ;-)

  2. Well, Nathan, the pool is fenced, and kids can't be out there without an adult. And there are no trees over the pool. So there!

  3. So, are you going to need some help with the project? Hmmm... more room for a garden... that's a nice big yard for all kinds of good things!

  4. Just one more thing I was pondering...what if you bought a cheaper pool? Sam's Club has some and we have a membership. Maybe it wouldn't be something to do this year, but maybe in the future. I fully understand why you would take it down, though...we will just have to find another nice lake...for almost free!

  5. Are you SURE you cannot give it away? You do know about Free Cycle, on-line, don't you? Don't you think you could get someone to take it down and move it , if they would only have to pay for a liner and end up with a pool. Don't start taking it apart until you try!

  6. If you take it down, you'll have to pay to have it hauled away.

  7. I put it on Craigslist, and this morning woke up to find 10 offers of people who will come and dismantle it and take it away for me. Wow -- that was fast!

But Kathy, you would be welcome to help with the projects that come after that. ;-) Filling in the hole. Changing the deck. Etc.

  8. How's Maggie taking it? She was the one counting on it most of all...

  9. Rachel, she's a little disappointed, but not as much as I expected.
