No News Yet

Rejoice, my heart, be glad and sing,
a cheerful trust maintain,
for God, the source of everything,
thy Portion shall remain.

He is thy Treasure, He thy Joy,
thy Life and Light and Lord,
thy Counselor when doubts annoy,
thy Shield and great Reward.

Why spend the day in blank despair,
in restless thought the night?
On thy Creator cast thy care.
He makes thy burdens light.

(Why did they so often leave out such important stanzas when they put LSB together?)

Still no news about a job/income for Gary.
Maybe next week?

  1. Dear Susan,

I know you've been frustrated by some of the stanzas that were left out of the hymns in the LSB, but you've confused me in this case. All three of these stanzas that you have quoted are included, as the first three stanzas of LSB 737.

Of course, these happen to be three of the latter stanzas of Gerhardt's Ich singe dir mit Herz und Mund, which was divided into two hymns in TLH (569 & 535). For whatever reason, LSB includes most of TLH 535, whence you have quoted, but doesn't include any of TLH 569, "O Lord, I Sing with Lips and Heart." So, perhaps that is what you are referring to.

I don't like it, either, that so much Gerhardt has been omitted from the LSB. But at least the three stanzas that you have quoted are included. (And overall, we have it a whole lot better than they do in the new ELCA book!)

Remembering you in our prayers, and anxious to hear whatever news the Lord may grant to you and yours.

  2. They left out:

When silent woe thy bosom rends,
    His pity sees thy grief,
supplies what to His glory tends
    and to thine own relief.

He knows how oft a Christian weeps
and why his tears now fall.
And in the book His mercy keeps
    these things are noted all.
