Changes

In the midst of difficulties and anfechtung, it would be a whole lot easier to endure if they hadn't changed the pericopes, if they hadn't changed the words to the hymns that are a person's sustenance, if they hadn't changed the psalms to a new translation. As if there weren't enough struggles in life, a person can't even count on the Word that has been learned by heart to sustain her ... because it's all been changed with LSB to "improve" things.

  1. I, personally, have much more faith in CPH deciding what scripture I need to hear rather than trusting in the historic church's practice.

  2. The biggest place where change hits me is the 1990 changes to the Small Catechism, in places where they're not even updating from Jacobian thees and thous.

"that He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my limbs, my reason, and all my senses, and still preserves them"

    versus

"that He ahs given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them."

Huh? Where was the foul? :)

  3. I say the old words and I probably always will, whether it is in reciting catechism with my children or reciting the creed in church.
