Baptism Pictures

The family with Pastor Horn:

The sponsors:

Two grandparents:

In the sermon, Pastor talked about baptism being a dying. This Sunday we heard about Christ's second coming (the parable of the five wise virgins and the five foolish virgins). Pastor said that the death & resurrection that takes place at baptism --hidden so that all the mortal eye beholds is water as we pour it-- reverberates through time until at Christ's coming we are taken as Christ's own bride in the resurrection of the body.

I loved the picture in my mind of that reverberation. Like ripples on a pond when the rock is thrown in. Or like a sonic boom, traveling and traveling and traveling through all time and eternity, marking each Christian as God's own child.

  1. So how do I convey the big happy smile on my face? A text smiley just doesn't cut it.

  3. Thanks for posting the photos. I love being able to picture these significant events.

As I scrolled down to the last one, it's so good to see Pr. Gehlbach vested, it choked me up. What a great pastor he is.

  5. Thinking of those ripples, Susan...this is the same font where our Elizabeth was washed in the waters of Holy Baptism on March 9, 1986. How beautiful it is to see her now standing at that font as one of Alia's sponsors. God is so good!

  6. Sunday morning I remembered that Liz had mentioned more than a year ago that she'd been baptized at that same church. But I had forgotten about Dan's grandpa (or was it great-grandpa?) until Gary pointed out the portraits of the pastors.

It's a small world after all.

  7. Thanks for sharing the beautiful day! I certainly know the sponsors on the left. Who's in the right? The husband looks familiar...

The kids and I were just talking about this today, but now you gave me a better way to put it. I'll be sure to read them your quote tomorrow. Thanks!

  8. Kathy, the other couple is Jeff and Liz. Jeff is a member of Our Fathers. He was Nathan's best man (but that was the weekend you were at Sean's sister's wedding). Liz is the daughter of Dan and Sara (who are at Mt Zion), the same Sara who is teaching preschool now at my church. Without putting out people's last names, that should probably give you enough info to know who they are.
