"Okay"

Thought the allergens were getting to me. Or the humidity. But probably it's a cold. Not used to being sick.

I noticed yesterday that I was telling myself "okay" throughout the day. All day. Many times. When I had to go to the grocery store, it was "okay" after I put my shoes on, "okay" after I picked up my purse, "okay" after I climbed into the van and closed the door. This was stupid! But I kept doing it. I would tell myself "okay" after I found each item on the grocery list. "Okay" after I found a check-out lane.

After I took a nap, I gave myself an "okay" after I sat up. And an "okay" after I stood up. It was almost like I needed to coach myself through the day. "You did that. C'mon, Susan, you can tackle the next thing!" Okay!

I've barely told myself "okay" today. That must mean 14 hours of sleep did something to improve my health. :-)

But you know what? If I start hearing me give myself "okay" again today, I think it will be time to lie down and sleep some more.

  1. I think someday I shall take a one week vacation and sleep 14 hours each night.

Summer colds really tend to sneak up on a gal, I've found. :(

  2. If a total stranger may make a suggestion: Eat mangoes. The last time I had a cold, I ate three mangoes in two days and recovered surprisingly quickly (this was not based on any prior expectation, I just happened to have mangoes at the time). A friend of mine wondered what the connection was, and did some research on mangoes. It turns out they are loaded with immune system-boosting vitamins, etc., plus the enzymes to help your body absorb said vitamins, etc. I hope you don't mind that I read you blog. I like your daily jokes, and steal your recipes. I'll stop if you tell me to.

  3. You're a total stranger? For a while I thought you were Nat or Zack, but then decided you weren't, but were still probably somebody I knew. But now you're saying you're a total stranger. Hmmmmm. Curiouser and curiouser.

Anyway, as it so happens, I had mangoes for lunch today. :-) I thought it was just because there were some in the fridge and they tasted good. And here you're telling me it was for my immune system. Hooray!
