Raw Milk Bill

A bill (LRB 3242/3) has been introduced to the Wisconsin legislature to allow the sale of unpasteurized milk.

Raw milk has helped many people who have digestive problems, those who have allergies, and those who have problems with their teeth. Raw milk is a food which has been drunk for millenia and has been outlawed only during the last century.

If you live in Wisconsin --even if you don't care about raw milk but care about our freedom to feed ourselves real food without government interference-- please call your own assemblyman and senator on Friday (or at least before December 4), encouraging him/her to sign on to the bill as a co-sponsor.

  1. This is ironic because in South Dakota the department of Agriculture is looking to restrict the sale of raw milk even further. Besides restricting the freedom to choose what I eat, the bill states that (if the seller is able to continue selling milk) the seller must provide a list of names, addresses, and quantities of milk purchased by all customers.

    I can't believe it!

  2. Wow! I suprised any sort of relaxation of the rules even made it this far. Good sign!

I wish the only law re: milk (and apple cider, too) was labelling. Farmers would just have to label milk as raw or unpasteurized and then people could make THEIR OWN decisions!

  3. Melanie, we had a bureaucrat come along and decide that cow-shares was a bad thing. They started to crack down on that. In response, raw-milk drinkers went to the legislature and began trying to get things changed. We are in the very beginning stages of this, and only Wisconsin people should be responding, and only to their own legislators.
