Caramel Dip for Apples

This isn't as runny as the caramel dips you find in the produce section or at the apple orchard, but it's healthier. The taste isn't quite the same, but it's just as good.

Cream together equal parts of:
brown sugar
cream cheese
peanut butter.

A bowlful of this with a plate of Honeycrisp slices makes a mighty yummy lunch!

  2. Is it sticky like carmel dip? My son has caps on his teeth so we haven't had carmel dip for several years.

  3. Sticky? No stickier than peanut butter. Actually, I think it's less sticky than peanut butter, because of the fat in the cream cheese slicking it out. (Okay, people verb their nouns and noun their verbs, but now I'm verbing my adjectives...) This certainly doesn't have the "pull" of caramel.

Yesterday I just stirred it until it was blended. It tasted fine, but I like it better when I beat it silly in the mixer to fluff it up. If you cream it well with an electric mixer, it'll be even less sticky than the way we ate it yesterday.

Oh, and if you have DARK brown sugar, all the better for caramelliness, my dear.

  4. Susan - just made this for lunch today...it sounded so good. I'm sure the kids will just gobble it up. Made it w/almond butter as I have one w/ a peanut allergy and whipped in a little 1/2 and 1/2 to make it a bit more "dippy." Delicious! Thanks.

  5. Hey, Jeannette, good idea about the half-&-half. That should help. Thanks!
