The New Star Trek Movie

We recently saw an advertisement for this month's Star Trek movie. Certain people who are related to me are very excited about the release of this movie. But it's new. It's different. I'm not into "new and different." So I see this picture of some guy in the movie. And what do I complain to Andrew?

"That's not Spock! That's just some guy pretending to be Spock!"

Oh, good heavens -- I have lived with my geeky family too long! (And Andrew is still laughing at me.)

  1. But his pretending looks a LOT like Spock!

  3. I'm considering the fact that this movie is released on my birthday to be a call to return to the Trekkie flock. ;)

  5. I don't generally like "new things," either, when it means that they mess up old things. But lately, directors have become a lot more.. eh... "thoughtful" about how they make their movies. By which I mean, they include a lot in them that I think is actually an improvement on the old (take the new Batmans films, for instance).

And Star Trek was (while awesome) such a horrifically modernist (philosophically speaking) television show that I'm kind of excited to see if they do something new with it. :-) (Says the philosophy major...)

  6. PS: I know that wasn't the point of your post at all, but I couldn't help myself. :-) More on topic, I also think the new Spock is kind of weird for the role. This comes especially, though, from watching Heroes, and all I can think is, "That's the evil, awful, horrible, wicked villain!!!!"

    Poor Spock...
