Convention Speeches Tonight

Dang it. There for a while they (particularly Fred Thompson) almost had me starting to like John McCain. Yup, the same John McCain whose name is attached to McCain-Feingold, something I still have a hard time forgiving. And then along comes Lieberman, reminding us that McCain is one of the Republicans that doesn't fit the Republican mold but is much more like a Democrat. Oy!

  1. I ended on a high with Thompson and then went to bed. Should I be sorry I missed it?

  2. Yeah, I hear ya. But look at the bright side: McCain could not have sent a stronger conservative message than picking Palin for VP. At the same time, to win (especially this year) we need some independents and Democrats. I'm hoping the Lieberman endorsement will appeal to a few of those. Leave it to McCain to do what people said he couldn't do: appeal simultaneously to moderates and conservatives.

And I have to say, I respect the man enormously, even though I don't agree with all of his views. You can't argue with his spirit and courage and what he did for his country. And I truly believe he has the country's best interest at heart and that he will govern from principle, not politics. With him in the WH I will be able to go to sleep with some sense of security each night.

  3. Polly, I should've done what you did. Be glad you missed Lieberman.
