Charade

Last night Gary watched an Audrey Hepburn movie with Cary Grant in it too. He insisted that I watch it too. It was excellent! I can't say much about it without spoiling the plot full of twists. But it was a superb mix of comedy and romance and suspense.

(The only warning would be that the movie does show some people who had been murdered. However, the murders are not shown on-screen, and the gore-level is nothing compared to what's in movies today.)

  1. I never got a chance to watch the original, although Coral and I did see the remake a few years back. Considering that the remake was pretty good, the Audrey-and-Cary version must be phenomenal!

  3. We have that movie and have watched it many times. It's a keeper!

If you like Cary Grant and suspense, you'll probably like North by Northwest. And we just rewatched Roman Holiday with Audrey Hepburn...awesome but more of a chick flick.

  4. Ah, Barbara, maybe you are the one where we got that recommendation. If so, thanks! I put North by Northwest on our Blockbuster queue. It looks kinda scary, but I keep telling myself that "scary" by the standards of the 50s and 60s aren't quite the same as what Hollywood puts out nowadays.

  5. You will love NxNW! And then you'll have to track down "Rear Window" and "The Man Who Knew Too Much," both by Hitchcock and starring James Stewart. And once you get really brave, you might work up to the original 1960s version of "The Man Who Knew Too Much," which is way scary!

There are just so many good, old movies out there. Thank goodness, because it's slim pickings in the theaters these days.
