Computer Woes

Our internet connection was down for 14 hours. And now that it CAN operate, it does so only with difficulty. It's very hard to check email or do anything on the Web, so don't expect to hear from me for a while unless it's via the telephone. Bummers....

  1. Philip (in phone-contact with Gary) finally resolved the problem and got machines running properly again. Somehow, the passwords and settings all got reset in the router. I think what happened was that the internet was down, and the ISP repaired it in the early afternoon. But I suspect that my following the advice from tech support throughout the morning was what caused the passwords/settings to be goofed up. So their "cure" was part of what exacerbated the problem. Every other time we've had these outages, we just wait and eventually the internet comes back. But the ISP won't work on fixing it until we call with complaints. But when we call with complaints, they insist it's our fault and our bad equipment. It's frustrating.

  2. Well, that's all better than when I read the very first line of this post. Evidently I was scrolling down the screen too fast and ended up reading: "Our internet connection froze to the garage floor."

At which point my eyes nearly popped out of my head. All I could think was, "I didn't think it was possible to get that cold."

Then I realized I was being stupid and had somehow jumped down to the previous post. Don't know how I got the lines lined up so perfectly that I made that mistake, but I thought I should share. :-)

  3. Thanks, Nathan, that brought me the biggest smile of the week (and I desperately needed one about now). And I'm glad to know your wife is healthy again. My fever is long gone and my cough is almost better.
