Haircut

Same ol' long hair pulled back in a ponytail/bun.

I like the back!

I think the bangs are too short.  (And boy, it's weird how my profile makes me look so much like my mom but also like a cousin on my dad's side.)

The front of the new haircut.

I haven't cried yet.  That's a good sign, right?  Considering what I was anticipating?  Yup.

  1. Looks lovely! Does it involve something complicated to keep it looking like that, or just brush it and fluff?

My hair is just a bit shorter, but I would love to have long hair one last time. Can a 57 year old wear a ponytail?

  2. Very pretty! I like! I hope it "grows" on you! (Hahahahaha)

  3. Nothing complicated. That was the highest priority, much more important than how it looks. Wash it, pat it dry, "crunch" it with my hands, air dry. Yesterday Pam used the blow dryer and a touch of mousse; that's why it was straighter in the pictures than it is today.

And YES, a 57-yr-old can wear a ponytail. I was fully intending to be one of those old ladies with the long gray hair, usually in a bun or a ponytail, but occasionally just long. This darn baldness-thing is interfering. I SO wish I could still be doing the ponytail.

Several people have told me that I "look so much younger" with the shorter hair. In other words, yesterday morning I looked decrepit and old and haggard with the hair of a crone, eh? ;-) I don't think long hair makes women look old at all, but I probably don't reflect typical opinions. (Hmmm: maybe that's a bit of an understatement?!)

  4. It looks beautiful. Your natural curls work well with this cut. I hope it remains an easy to wear style. And it does make you look younger. Maybe because your hair looks fuller when it's not pulled down with the weight from the length?

  6. It does make you look younger and healthier. Unless you have Cheryl's gorgeous hair, long hair almost always looks better short, especially on older women. That is why my 57 year old ponytail may just be in my dreams.

  7. I'm curious as to who Anonymous is. Sitemeter tells me the city but who's writing isn't clicking for me today.

  8. Aw, Anonymous, what a sweet thing to say. But just so you know, I have my own old lady hair trouble. I have always had a cowlick on my crown, but it seems to be worsening the older I get. For a while I thought my hair was thinning back there, and maybe it is, but I think the problem is mostly that the cowlick is getting more pronounced with age and it tends to spread out and show my scalp, creating what looks like a bald spot. My mom has the same problem. Every morning I brush and fluff that spot and then use hair spray to try to hold the hair in place. I am so self-conscious about that spot but as with most things that have to do with appearance, I probably notice it much more than anyone else.

  9. Your natural waves are perfect for this cut, Susan. I hope it isn't too hard to get used to. I think it's really becoming on you. I got my hair cut short recently. I like changing the style now and then, just because I can. But also, as much as I like long hair, I think the shorter cuts look better on me.

  10. VERY cute. I would keep the bangs short. They will move better that way. Let them grow a little, for your comfort, but don't let them grow too long, or they'll flop.

  11. Always meant to respond. . . this is such a cute cut and looks so perky! I hope you are enjoying it more and more each day.

  12. I like it! :) It looks spunky.

I, too, have always loved the long grey hair in a bun look. But alas, when my hair gets beyond shoulder length it gets thin and lank. I just don't have long-hair hair.
