Thomas, the Twin

The story for Quasimodo Geniti (today) is the second half of John 20, also known as the "Doubting Thomas" story. The particular verse being discussed was 24:
"Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came."

The question to the child was
"What was Thomas called?"

The answer?
"Tom."

Naturally!

  1. I remember a similar incident from Sunday School when I was in fourth or fifth grade. It was the Fourth Sunday in Advent and we were practicing the Christmas Pageant. Seeing a "teaching moment" the teacher thought to remind us of the meaning of Christmas, etc, and asked, "What was Mary thinking about as they rode into Jerusalem that night?" My smart-alek class mate clutched his belly in mock agony, lurching around the stage, bellowing "pain! pain! pain!" and I nearly wet my pants. It was the funniest thing I had seen or heard to that point in my life and it still makes me smile thinking about it.

BTW, Thomas was probably not called "Tom." He was probably called "Did."
