Government Mandated Schooling

I live with only five people. Within 36 hours after the release of The Deathly Hallows, THREE of these people (unbeknownst to each other) informed me:
"Guess what the evil people do? They outlaw homeschooling and other private schools!"

  1. Katie and I both made that comment to each other, too. :-) And I was going to e-mail you about all the awesome things in Harry Potter and reasons why you need to read it... but then assumed you'd get enough of that from your own children that you didn't need me bugging you about it all the same. ;-)

I will say this, though. It had one of the greatest stories of the Christian life I've ever seen in a fictional story. By which I mean basically when Christ says, "I know life is hard. I know you hate it. I know you don't think I'm helping you enough. I know you don't think I'm on your side. I know you think I'm making things more difficult than I am. I know you think all these things. Trust me, anyway, on my word alone, because that's all you need."

It's fantastic. And it makes me need to read them all over again in order!

  2. I haven't read the HP books, so my comment doesn't relate to them, but it's interesting that you posted this today because as I was driving a little while ago I heard a few moments of Rush Limbaugh's show and he said the very same thing (not about HP but about homeschooling). He had been talking about the Democrats and their desire to get their hands on our children--he specifically referenced Obama's ideas about sex ed for kindergarteners and Hillary's desire to nationalize preschool. But he went on to say that if the Democrats take the presidency "they will do everything they can to outlaw homeschooling." I don't know if he's right about that, but the very thought left my blood running cold. This government is not going to get its hand on my babies!
