Did We Miss It?

As we were driving past Bloomington today, an anxious child asks, "Did we miss the exit?"

"Nooooo," says the mother. "We didn't miss the exit."

Child knows that the Market Street exit in Bloomington is loaded with fast-food joints. And she knows the mother had gift certificates to Wendy's (courtesy of an aunt and uncle last Christmas). However, the mother is aware that the child has had enough junk food over the last few days.

So about fifteen minutes later, child asks again, "Are we to Bloomington yet?"

"Oh, we're way past it."

"We missed the exit!!!"

No, we didn't miss it."

Oh,.... the definitions of "miss."

  1. Hey, if you think that's mean, then you're gonna have to take Mean-Lessons in the next couple of years ... before you neeeed them.

And thanks for the Wiestian books you dropped off Monday! I hope your paper-writing goes well.

  2. So was that Bloomington IL or Bloomington IN? Because we stopped at the Market Street exit in Bloomington IL en route to seeing our newlyweds in St. Louis on Labor Day weekend, and I have to say, I was not impressed by Bloomington!

Hope all is well with you and your family :)

  3. You're very welcome. I threw the Prayer of Jabez in there as well in order for you to learn God's 5-step plan (or some amount of steps I'm sure) to success and prosperity :p

  4. Barbara, it's Bloomington IL. You may not have been impressed by the Market St exit, but my youngest (who never gets enough fries, milkshakes, potato chips, chemically-altered hamburgers, pop, etc) thinks that is one totally awesome exit.

Since you'll probably be driving that route a few more times over the three years of your son's schooling, you may be interested to know that I found a Phillips 66 gas station at the Oglesby exit (the one just south of the bridge) that has non-ethanol gas and really good cappucino! Finding no-ethanol gas in the middle of corn country was a shock. A gas-saving, pleasant shock. (Dare I suggest that the non-ethanol gas feeds my desire to be a "green" good steward?)

  5. Jeff, I wondered about that "Prayer of Jabez"! That wasn't yours, was it? It didn't have Pastor's name in it, and I thought he was always careful to write his name on the inside cover. I can imagine him buying it -- he always seemed to be up on all the new dingy things.

Hey, if you've got a guarantee on that "success and prosperity," I may have to give that book a try. ;-)

  6. Oh, oh, oh. Your poor baby. I feel her pain.

Interesting about the non-ethanol gas. I thought it was a law in Illinois that all gas has to have a certain percentage of it. ???

  7. Elizabeth, I too thought Illinois gas was required to have ethanol. That's why I was so thrilled to find this gas station. I told the attendant (probably the owner) that she would have a loyal customer in me and my husband. Not that we get down there often, but we'll stop when we're going that way.

  8. Thanks for the tip, Susan :)

Actually my son did not start sem after all. He is working for CPH. His wife is from St. Louis and all her family is there, so I think they'll be living there for a while. It's 10 hours from our new home in WI so I'm not sure how often we'll be able to make the trip, but we'll remember Oglesby.
