Such a Wholesome Story

While sorting through piles and clearing the school bookshelves, I found some old notebooks that we'd used for writing. Here is an unnamed child's story from several years ago, spelling and all:

One upon a time ther was a prises [princess] who liked to get drunk. she was in a bar wen the ugly princ came in. the princes was so drunk tha she bafed all over the prins. He called his gard and they took her to prison. then the prince drank two Beers and imidietly got drunk. the prince was so drunk that he comited alot of crimes, and went to jall. The End

Good grief! Amazing to think such a child could --only three or four years later-- go to college, write papers (properly spelled and punctuated), and do well. And to think that some homeschool moms fret over 8-yr-olds who are writing with similar aplomb.

Parents'

Even though it's been 14 months since Dad died, I still find myself referring to "my parents' house" or "my parents' church" or getting a card from "my parents." I wonder when (if??) the words "mom's house" or "mom's church" will someday roll off my tongue naturally?

Today's Laugh

Four women are at a stylist convention: a blonde, a brunette, a redhead, and a woman with green hair. Each is asked the same question by a stylist, "Did you dye your hair that color?" The blonde, brunette, and redhead each answer in turn, "No, it's all natural," sweeping their hands through their hair. When the question was posed to the green-haired woman, she too said,"Nope, it's all natural," as she sweeps her hand over her nose and into her hair.

Wisconsin Homeschoolers Filing 1206

Homeschoolers in Wisconsin will be submitting their affidavits electronically this year instead of on paper forms. Please see the WPA website for information about how to file, as well as what the 1206 does and doesn't require and the who-what-when-where-why of the form. (Also, please consider joining WPA to support our excellent homeschooling law and to keep abreast of news which will impact either our homeschooling or our law.)

New Computer

Andrew has been anxiously awaiting the arrival of his USPS and UPS boxes today. They've arrived, and he's busy putting together his new toy tool.

Dinosaurs

"Hi."
"Hi."
[walk walk walk
dinosaurs walk toward each other]
"Hi."
"ROARrrrr!!!!"
[bite fight
fight bite]
And then, all bright and chipper, "Bye."
"Bye!"

Today's Laugh

An elephant was drinking out of a river one day, when he spotted a turtle asleep on a log. So, he ambled on over and kicked it clear across the river.

"What did you do that for?" asked a passing giraffe.

"Because I recognized it as the same turtle that took a nip out of my trunk 53 years ago."

"Wow, what a memory!" commented the giraffe.

"Yes," said the elephant, "turtle recall."

Family Picture

Katie, Nathan, and Alia.

Third Shift

Nathan (my son-in-law) found a job here pretty quickly. It's not what he wants to do forever, but for now it's a job and a paycheck. He's working the night shift; this week he's been trying to readjust his sleeping schedule so that he sleeps afternoons and evenings. Tonight is his first night at work. Here'sl hoping it's not too hard to stay awake and alert on the job tonight.

With Gary working days, Nathan working nights, and Andrew working part-time in the evenings, I suspect there will be no Family Dinner-Time for quite a while. But hey, under-employed or not, at least they have jobs!

Today's Laugh

I found a hilarious cartoon, but it was copyrighted. Go look at it by clicking here. If you want to read more of Mark Parisi's cartoons, check out the sidebar on his site.
